Your Teacher

Join certified Ballet Beats® instructor, Catherine McLaughlin. She will make you sweat and smile!

Catherine George McLaughlin is a dancer and musician based in Lethbridge. Her early dance training was centred around Danceworks Dance Academy and its Inturns Modern Dance Company. Danceworks gave her an outlet for creativity and a place to begin her teaching career. It’s also the home away from home where she and Ballet Beats® creator Kalyn Swihart danced together and built a lifelong friendship.

After completing a Bachelor of Music in double bass from the University of Lethbridge, McLaughlin pursued professional dance training in Toronto. She is a graduate of the Professional Training Program at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre where her passion for Martha Graham technique was ignited while studying with world renowned teachers such as Helen Jones and Patricia Miner.

In 2007 McLaughlin and her husband returned to Lethbridge. She spends most of her time trying to keep up with their two rambunctious kids and striving to share her passion for dance and music with anyone who’s willing to join her. She teaches at Danceworks and serves as principal bass in the Lethbridge Symphony.  In 2015, she co-founded the Lethbridge Society of Independent Dance Artists with Claire Lint. LSIDA gives her another platform to promote her beloved art-form and collaborate with others who share a passion for dance. McLaughlin is honoured to be teaching the Ballet Beats® program. She’s been sweating along with Kalyn through the streaming platform for years now, and can’t wait to share this energetic and graceful workout with Lethbridge.
